Admissions FAQs

FAQs for the admissions process and policies at Dominion.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us!

The deadline for applications has passed. Am I too late?

We are pleased to continue to receive applications on a rolling admissions basis. Please call our admissions office at (703) 758-1055 or email our Admissions office at admissions@dominionschool.com with questions.

To which campus do I send my application?

Regardless of grade or campus, please send all applications to our main admissions office at our North Campus: 1545 Dranesville Road, Herndon, VA 20170.

How are students evaluated for admissions?

Upon return of a completed application form, an interview with the family will be arranged with the Head of School. A review of all other required materials (as stated on the application form), and the administration of the Dominion Entrance Tests/Screening as an evaluation for grade placement of the student will be conducted. In collaboration with the administrative team, the Head of School makes all admissions determinations.

Do we have to be Christians for my child to be considered?

Though not required to be Christians, the parents of students in Dominion must have a clear understanding of the biblical philosophy and purpose of Dominion. This understanding includes a willingness to have their child exposed to the clear teaching (not forced indoctrination) of the school’s Statement of Faith in various and frequent ways within the school’s program.

The parents must be willing to cooperate with the written policies of Dominion. This is most important in the area of discipline (see Discipline Guidelines and Student Conduct Explanations) and school work standards, as well as active communication with the respective teacher(s) and administration.

What paperwork do I need before the interview stage?

  • Filled application packet and fee
  • Academic recommendations (x2)
  • Spiritual/social reference (x1)
  • School records (not required for rising kindergartners)
  • ISEE test score for those applying to grades 7-12

Is age the determining factor for the grade my child is placed?

If a child has successfully completed the previous school year and his school work and behavior compare favorably to the comparable grade at Dominion, the child will likely be placed in the grade for which he is applying. However, if through the administration of the Dominion Entrance Tests or other evidence, it is determined that the child may not be adequately prepared for the next sequential grade level, it may be necessary that he repeat the previous grade.

What’s the minimum age for kindergarten?

A child must have reached the age of five years by September 1 of the fall in which he or she would be entering Kindergarten.

What paperwork is required if my child has been homeschooled?

Please return academic recommendations, spiritual/social reference, a written list of classes and grades, and copies of standardized tests should be attached with the application. If your child has attended a traditional school recently, school records from that school should also be forwarded to Dominion.
