DCS offers numerous special events throughout the school year. These events provide an opportunity for educational enrichment, community building, and fun.
"The Great Work" Breakfast Series
This series of monthly breakfasts features guests who will share from their experience how they came to realize their vocation in life and the path they took in pursuing that calling. They give aid as well as encouragement to our high schoolers in examining the "great work" that God puts before us every day as He moves us through our daily tasks towards His purposes. These godly examples give inspiration to our students as they begin to make choices about their future.
Christmas Shoppe
A highlight every Holiday Season is the annual Christmas Shoppe, where students are permitted to shop for family members among a large room of donated (sometimes “pre-owned”) gifts, all of which cost only 50¢.
Christmas Concert
Under the exceptional leadership of our music teachers, each year our students perform a variety of Christmas classics and new Christmas music, all in celebration of the birth of our Savior.
Fundraising Banquet
Every year, parents and friends of DCS gather for a time of vision building and encouragement at our annual fundraising dinner.
Renaissance Festival
Every other spring brings the DCS Renaissance Festival, an opportunity for students, teachers, and parents to dress as in medieval times, to eat medieval foods, and to play medieval games. A few unlucky students and teachers also find themselves in the stockades until their freedom is purchased by their kind friends.
Folger Theater Presentation
Each year, our 7th through 10th grade students prepare diligently for the opportunity to travel into Washington, D.C. and perform at the Folger Theater Secondary School Shakespeare Festival in March. In March 2009, our students performed “A Midsummer’s Night Dream.”
Greek Olympics
In May 2009, we celebrated our first Greek Olympics. Students were evenly divided into teams with colored shirts and banners and, led by “Dad” captains, they tried their hand at numerous competitions.
Spring Concert
In the spring, our students present a themed musical program. Our spring 2009 program highlighted American music through the years.
