Our Board consists of seven parents of DCS students and two Elders from the Church of Northern Virginia (who serve as liaisons between the Church and the School). Our current Board members are:
Jonathan Whittle has served on the Board for six years and is currently Chairman of the Board. He works for Darby Overseas Investments, a private equity firm focused on emerging markets, where he focuses on technology and telecommunications investments in Latin America. He has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Westmont College and a Master of Arts in Latin American Studies from Georgetown University. Jonathan and his wife Allyson have four children, all of which attend DCS. He and his family attend McLean Presbyterian Church.
Paul Balserak has served on the Board for three years and is head of the Board’s Marketing Committee. He works as a Senior Policy Analyst in the Administrator’s Office at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He has served in many capacities over his twenty years at EPA, but currently focuses on climate change and air regulations. He has a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science and Public Policy from George Mason University and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Paul and his wife Lori have three children, all of which attend DCS. He and his family attend New Hope Presbyterian Church, where Paul also serves as a ruling elder.
Dan Bryant has served on the Board for three years. He is the Senior Vice President of Global Public Policy and Government Affairs for a global food and beverage company where he is responsible for directing the company’s global public policy efforts, and leads the worldwide government affairs team. Previously, Dan was Assistant Attorney General for Legal Policy and Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs at the U.S. Department of Justice. His government career also involved serving as Chief Counsel on the U.S. House Judiciary Committee. Dan and his wife Aerin have four children, three of which attend DCS. Dan and his family attend Grace Presbyterian Church, where Dan also serves as an elder. He is also on the Board of Westminster Seminary California.
Dave Houston has served on the Board for six years. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Metro Radio, a media company located in the Washington D.C. area. He attended George Mason University, and met his wife Becky when they both volunteered with Young Life during their college years. Dave and his family attend Fairfax Community Church. Currently, three of their four children attend DCS.
Eddie Isler has been on the Board for two years and is the Vice-Chair of the Board. He currently represents management in labor and employment matters with his firm in Tysons Corner, Isler Dare Ray Radcliffe & Connolly, P.C. He received his undergraduate degree in Government and Economics from the University of Virginia and his law degree from the College of William and Mary, where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif and served as an editor on the Law Review. Eddie and his wife Kim attend McLean Presbyterian Church, where Eddie is a ruling elder. Eddie and his wife Kim have four children at DCS.
Kurt R. Johnson is a Retired USNR Commander and is currently the Senior Analyst, Iranian Naval Forces and the Vice Chair of the Naval Weapons Systems Subcommittee of the Weapons and Space Systems Intelligence Committee for the National Intelligence Council. In recognition of his experience and expertise, he was presented with the meritorious Civilian Service Medal in March 2006, NGA’s Teamwork Award in July 2007, and made an Intelligence Community Officer in August 2008. Kurt earned his Post Graduate Intelligence Program Diploma at the Defense Intelligence College and a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence at the renamed Joint Military Intelligence College. Kurt is an ordained Elder-Bishop and Trustee in the Whole Word Fellowship & Church at Northern Virginia, the Assistant District Commissioner for Falls Church in the George Mason District, National Capital Area Council and an Assistant Scoutmaster in his son’s Troop. Kurt and his wife Janet have one son, Karl, who is a senior in a local high school. He and his family attend the Church of Northern Virginia.
Steve Steinberg joined the Board in early 2010. Steve is the general manager at the Hilton Garden Inn in Fairfax, and he has serves on the Hilton Garden Inn General Manager advisory council. Prior to his position at the Hilton Garden Inn, he served as a Regional Director and Director of Human Resources for a hotel management company. He and his wife Elizabeth have a daughter currently in the eighth grade at DCS, and a son, who will enter Kindergarten in 2011. Steve and his family attend the Church of Northern Virginia, where he is a trustee.
Eric Vendt has been on the Board for four years and serves as the Board’s Treasurer and the Chair of the Governance Committee. He is a partner with the law firm of Whiteford, Taylor & Preston L.L.P., where his primary practice area is corporate and business law providing counsel to small and middle market companies. He received his law degree from The American University and received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting at Bucknell University. Eric and his wife, Wendy, have three children who attend DCS. He and his family attend Fourth Presbyterian Church, where Eric is an elder.
William Yoder has been on the Board for one year and is the Board secretary. He was a litigation partner at an international law firm, before going in-house with a client to manage that company’s litigation needs. William studied at the University of Kansas (BA, 1993) and the University of Virginia (JD, 1996). He and his wife Melisa have three children, two of which are at DCS. William and his family attend Grace Presbyterian Church.
